Bronze, aluminium, and steel sculpture based on reconstructed 3D models of the brain's ventricles, exploring industrial aesthetics, machine processes, and loops of thought.
Created during the Lapsus Residency in Timisoara, Romania, "Grinding Gears" continues Yannick Harter's exploration of the relationship between human bodies and industrial processes.
The bronze objects are based on 3D models of the ventricles of the brain. These anatomical forms were reconstructed to fit the chuck of a lathe, 3D printed in wax, and then cast in bronze.
The work links anatomical imaging and industrial fabrication with the motif of recurring mental loops. It draws on the function of the ventricles as cavities involved in circulation and relates this to the circular form of the lathe chuck and its rotational movement. Between anatomical circulation, mechanical rotation, and thought caught in loops, the work reflects on forms of turning, circling, and repetition shaped by technical systems.
